How to Write a Query Letter: A Workshop on March 7, 2015

Writer, instructor, and editor Amy Boutell will lead this special one-hour workshop dedicated to writing query letters to literary agents. A strong query letter can make all the difference in getting a manuscript read by agents and editors. In this workshop, we will demystify the daunting process of describing one’s book-length project in a few short paragraphs. After we discuss the structure of the query letter genre and look at examples of successful query letters, participants will be guided through the process of drafting a query letter of their own. Workshop leader Amy Boutell has an MFA from the Michener Center for Writers, a background in publishing, and has advised numerous authors on the process of querying agents and developing book proposals.

Tickets for this workshop are $25, and space is limited to just 12 participants. All proceeds benefit 826LA. Click here to purchase tickets.

This workshop will follow “How Do I Get My Book Published?: An Information Panel and Q&A” with local publisher Olivia Taylor Smith (Unnamed Press), literary agent Dara Hyde (of the Hill/Nadell agency), novelist Meg Howrey (author of Blind SightThe Cranes Dance, and co-writer of the Magnus Flyteseries), and memoirist Wendy C. Ortiz (author of Excavation). Tickets for the workshop and panel are sol separately. For more information on this panel and to purchase tickets for the panel, click here.
